Instead of sharing a baked item recipe, I thought I would share something related but not a finished product type of item.
Some people buy it at the store – Bisquick or other names. A while back I came across several recipes, and I have settled on this one as our favorite. It is from Money Saving Mom‘s website. (I love her. She offers a lot of great information about almost anything!)
Here it is, if you don’t want to click on links…
10 cups flour (we do half white and half whole wheat)
8 TBSP baking powder
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 1/4 cup powdered milk
1 TBSP salt
1/4 cup sugar (or turbinado)
2 1/4 cup coconut oil or shortening
Mix all dry ingredients. Cut in coconut oil/shortening, until it is fine crumbs. Store in an airtight container. (Freezer storage is a really good idea) Use in place of Bisquick.
You could cut this in half, if you don’t feel like storing 10+ cups of mixture. 🙂 Or you could place it in 2 gallon size storage/freezer bags. If you are using freshly ground flour, definitely store in the freezer. If using whole wheat flour, fridge or freezer is best too. Otherwise, just keep it cool in the pantry or basement and use as needed! Works just as well as Bisquick but without the gazillion ingredients (have you ever read the label?!) and without all the sodium. Healthy and handy!!
